  1. We created a link to a cube \u201cAdventure Works\u201d in the database with the same name.<\/li>\n
  2. We created two users – mike and john (with the same passwords), and gave them access to the cubes.<\/li>\n
  3. We created a report, and allowed to see it for all users. Besides we explicitly restricted the user john to see it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Items 1 and 2 are needed to be done only once. Moreover, there is a way of setting access rights to one or several cubes simultaneously to a plenty of users, and during this operation \u2013 to set restrictions on one or more dimensions. This functionality we shall consider later.<\/p>\n

    Let’s see what happens if we log on into the report module under the user \u201cmike\u201d. There are two ways to enter into the report module. The first way is standard: to start the report module and to enter the data into the \u201cLog On\u201d form:<\/p>\n

    But there is also another way \u2013 to select this item in the context menu for the user in the administrative module:<\/p>\n

    After logging on the user john will see such a form:<\/p>\n

    Note<\/strong>. If you do not see any report, it means that you missed to do something in the administrative module:<\/p>\n

    1) you didn\u2019t make the report version active;<\/p>\n

    2) you neither gave the rights for this report, nor for any of its parent folders to this user (or any of his roles).<\/p>\n

    We created only one report in the administrative module, therefore it is the one that is displayed in the tree (in the folder \u201cFolder 1\u201d). If you create more reports, all of them will be displayed in this tree.<\/p>\n

    Choose the context menu item \u201cGenerate\u201d for this report:<\/p>\n

    A new tab \u201cReports\u201d will be added at the left. On this tab you will have more tabs on the top, one for each generated report:<\/p>\n

    The user can generate several reports at once, and all of them will be displayed on different tabs simultaneously.<\/p>\n

    As you can see, the report module user has the same reports designer as administrator. It it so because the user \u201cjohn\u201d belongs to the profile \u201cDefault Profile\u201d, and for this profile all functions are allowed (the user can change the structure of the page, choose a desirable level of details, and so forth).<\/p>\n

    Let\u2019s pay attention to one more feature:<\/p>\n

    That is, the user sees only the report. You can switch between the modes of viewing in the administrative module as well.<\/p>\n
