Setting up the Connection
You can begin creating a new report in two ways:
- Select the main menu item “Workbook/New”:
- Press the corresponding button on the toolbar:
After performing one of these operation the window will appear asking you if you want to connect to Analysis Services server or to the local cube. Select the appropriate option, for example the first one, and press “Start”:
In the following window you should fill in the address of the server and additional connection parameters if necessary. It is required to fill in the server name; the rest of the fields are likely to be left untouched:
After filling up the connection settings press “Next”. The program will try to connect to the server that you entered. After the successful connection the window will appear where you should select the database and cube. Select the example database “Adventure Works DW” and from the appeared list of cubes select “Adventure Works”. After that press “Next”:
The program will offer you to save the connection information, so the next time when you will be creating a new report on the same cube you won’t need to enter the same information once again. Leave the option “Remember this connection as” checked, fill in a friendly name and press “Finish”:
Now the connection set up is finished and you will get your first report.
The next time when you’ll be creating a report the next window will appear:
Here you can create the report using the same connection information and won’t have to enter all the connection parameters once again. Also you can create a new connection by pressing the “New” button.
